In anticipation of David Fincher’s new film, Mank, I am revisiting and reflecting on (almost) his entire filmography. The previous entry was Se7en (1995).

With, The Game, David Fincher presents one of his most common cinematic themes for the very first time: identity and belonging. While future films would wrestle with the notion of searching or peeling back the layers of our self and societal identities with greater complexity, with The Game, reconciling one’s identity and one’s past is presented amidst a roller coaster ride of twists and turns.
