Christopher Nolan’s conclusion to his Dark Knight trilogy is far from perfect, it is flawed, but it’s also entirely appropriate, and completely thrilling. The strength of this story, as it has been throughout the entire trilogy, is its reality; it’s depth and deep reflection on our own society and systems.

At the center of the Dark Knight’s rise is an effort to establish a renewable energy, a corrupt economy, terrorists and a masked man who says he is a “necessary evil” in the face of institutional indulgence and greed. Such themes…
